Beloved Baku

Beloved Baku

My dear and beloved city, my Baku; not a day passes by without it inspiring me. I never get tired of picturing it; every time that I go down its beautiful streets, I happen to see something new and exciting, something I want to memorize and capture.

"The City By The Sea", size: 40x40

In my sketch titled "Road to Shuvalan", I tried to show the beauty of this Bakuvian suburb.
All these roads and alleys are a walk down my memory lane, the shadows of my sunlit and carefree childhood.
The Caspian coast conjures up so many lovely visions of the past that we cherish and recall with a smile on our faces.

My hometown through the prism of our national values and cultural heritage.
Did you know that the Buta is just a almond-shaped ornament with a sharp and elbowed upper end?
Many theories exist as to the genesis thereof.
Three Buta's resembling both tongues of fire and water droplets are depicted on the coat of arms of Baku.
For long centuries, our city was a spiritual center of the Zoroastrianism, one of the most ancient religions of the world, with the Buta being the symbol of life and eternity.

Yet another reason why I am so fond of Baku is that it is the place where the local flavor is felt so strongly; the city is but an incredible medley of traditional and modern, Orient and Occident,
with its splendid architecture never failing to relate to any lover of art.
